Conscious Materials
When developing a new design, Normann Copenhagen's skilled team of in-house designers and engineers challenge existing ways of production and the utility of materials in order to create products that are manufactured in the most responsible way. A large part of the design process consists of reflecting on materials, their quality, durability, origin, environmental impact and life cycle.
Responsible Packaging
Normann Copenhagen is committed to ensuring that all our products are wrapped in responsible packaging that is safe for the product as well as the environment. Our packaging is made mostly from recycled materials and can be repurposed or recycled after use. Additionally, a significant amount of our furniture is flat-packed in a space-efficient method that reduces fuel consumption and thus CO2 emissions during shipment.
Construction
A shell of high-strength polypropylene is mounted on a steel, aluminum or wooden base. The steel legs match the color of the shell seat. Both chair and barstool are available with front upholstery or full upholstery. Hyg is delivered assembled.

All wood follows the EUTR (EU Timber Regulation), which ensures the legal sourcing of the wood. The varnish used by Normann Copenhagen is water-based.
POLYPROPYLENE
Keeping in line with our belief that longevity is at the core of sustainable design, Normann Copenhagen use polypropylene, a strong and highly durable material, for several designs in their furniture collection. They use a combination of recycled polypropylene, virgin polypropylene as well as a mix of the two. The material offers high resistance and durability, which ensures a long product lifetime. Furthermore, polypropylene is highly recyclable and consumes low energy during production.

Simon Legald
Simon Legald graduated from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in the summer of 2012. His work consists of both small- and large-scale products. Simon’s designs are often created in a dialogue between craftsmanship and industry. He also likes to incorporate the techniques that are necessary for the structure of a product into the design by highlighting them visually.
“Honesty is what makes a product understandable and is what describes the product’s functionality. If you understand the product, it does not need any explanation. The essence of my design is for it to be bought and used. Therefore, it has to satisfy not only the functional aspects but also the psychological and aesthetic needs. For me, simplicity describes the true identity of objects and makes them trustworthy. In my design, I try not to add any unnecessary details. I work with simplicity by highlighting the necessities instead of hiding them. It gives the product a simple and honest expression.”
