In keeping with the collection’s theme, the Latus Chair embodies the original strength, nature and poetics of wood as a material.‎ New treatment methods and craft traditions are present here in a mixture of contrasts.‎ A machine produces the Latus Chair body, while the soul comes at the end with careful craftsmanship for the final “polish”.‎ The result is a contemporary piece with classical references that compliments any decor.

Artisan only uses solid wood from renewable resources in their production, only environmentally-friendly materials for treatment, natural oils and wax that emphasise the luxurious and organic beauty of wood texture and that enable it to “breathe” naturally. This emphasizes the natural colour diversity, while the use of harmful chemical substances for wood treatment is avoided by using vinyl-based glue.

Artisan insists that, at the end of the production process, the furniture that adorns your living environment is as natural as the wood from which it originated.

A machine produces the Latus Chair body, while the soul comes at the end with the manual labour and the final “polish”.‎

The Latus dining chair is available in 6 different types of timber, oak, walnut, maple, elm, cherry and pear, with various natural finishes, Danish oils and soaps for a unique look. The seat can be ordered in solid timber, or upholstered with leather or fabric.

Process

Artisan treats walnut, cherry and elm wood only with superheated steam to reach an ideal colour with an accentuated texture without jeopardising the structure and ecological values of the wood. The wood is covered and ventilated in storage facilities at carefully selected geographic locations best suited for natural drying until a critical moisture level is reached- appropriate for the continued drying in computer-controlled chambers using state-of-the-art wood drying software.

Next is the selection of wood from the storage facility and its cutting to the desired lengths and widths, machine processing and gluing into boards, drying and acclimatisation. The wood is then prepared for assembling the end product, and the cutting and cropping of the completed boards or elements through the use of a 5-axis Homag CNC machine.

The final production stages are assembling and finishing work. The use of natural oils, soaps, wax and varnish substances (or a combination of them) on dried wood ensures a longer lifespan, preserves its naturalness and improves the visual wood features – colour, texture, etc.

Innovation

In 2009 Artisan founded the company ARTECO Wood Technology Centre with the idea to make the company the driving force of a new movement in Bosnia-Herzegovina’s wood industry. As a unique technological centre for the wood-processing industry, Arteco aims to provide infrastructure and expertise in design, prototype production, work on state-of-the-art CAD machinery, woodwork machinery, finishing, preparation, raw material drying.

GRUPPO ZENITH
Corrected and embossed, with a thickness of 0.8 – 1.0 mm. The average size of each hide is 3.8 – 4 sqm. Finished using a water-based system, the leather has a pigmented and protective topcoat with a soft feel and a silky matte finish, perfect for upholstery.

STOLZ SELECT
Pigmented Nappa leather with a smooth grain structure originating from Scandinavian bull hides. Thickness is 1.2 / 1.4 mm.
