The Knot chair by Japanese designer Tatsuo Kuroda is an elegant seating solution that combines modern aesthetics with a classic material: paper cord. The clean and simple expression of the Knot chair leads the thoughts back to 1950s furniture. The overall impression is determined by the details, such as the dominant jointing points in the natural paper cord, which also provide optimal sitting comfort.
Tatsuo Kuroda is a graduate of Tama Art University in Japan and has worked with product and furniture design since 2006. The Knot chair incorporates traditional Scandinavian design elements, such as the use of paper cord to tie together its components for both support and a stylish visual expression.
Tatsuo Kuroda explains: “My thoughts behind Knot was to create a chair which is a reinterpretation of itself – a chair that is both classic and modern at the same time. I am inspired by Danish design classics in which function and aesthetics come together.”
The Knot chair has all the characteristics we expect of a chair, but with a modern Scandinavian look characterised by workmanship working hand in hand with good sitting features. The result is comfort for both body and eye.

Responsible Packaging
Normann Copenhagen is committed to ensuring that all our products are wrapped in responsible packaging that is safe for the product as well as the environment. Our packaging is made mostly from recycled materials and can be repurposed or recycled after use. Additionally, a significant amount of our furniture is flat-packed in a space-efficient method that reduces fuel consumption and thus CO2 emissions during shipment.
Construction
Knot chair is made from solid wood bent into shape and equipped with a curved veneer seat. The overlapping of the bent wood components creates a wider armrest and the meeting points are tied together with a natural paper cord. The chair is delivered assembled.

ASH WOOD
Despite being a lightweight material, Ash is known for its elasticity and tensile strength. In addition, the material is indigenous to Europe, which is why it has a long history of being used in the furniture industry. The ash wood used is sourced in France and is PEFC-certified, ensuring sustainable forestry.
PAPER CORD
Paper cord is a naturally cool, comfortable and resistant material. It can last for many years. The paper cord itself is very strong and once woven it is one of the most durable materials for chair seats and backrests.

Tatsuo Kuroda graduated from Tama Art University, Japan in 2006. In 2009 he finished a master’s at Design Academy Eindhoven and has had his own studio since 2010.
