The Herit Chair is a timeless, sophisticated and refined design that speaks to all ages. Its simple, honest and elegant style marks the Danish furniture heritage with a clear frame of reference. But Herit is just as much a design that looks forward: Innovative production methods, new material compositions and timeless silhouettes give life to a chair that stands tall on its own.
Herit is a dynamic and versatile chair that reflects Simon Legald’s love of classic Danish furniture craftsmanship but rose from a desire to design a new chair as an elegant yet hard-wearing piece. The Herit armchair combines oak and polypropylene in tactful synergy to create a hard-wearing, maintenance-friendly and accessible design ideal for modern life.

Herit is available either with or without armrests and with upholstered or polypropylene seats. A palette of five classic shades with a dusty tweak is matched against complementary textiles from British Camira or leather from Danish Sørensen Læder. You can choose between oak legs with a transparent matte varnish or dark varnished oak, which has a smoky look.
The balanced materials complete a design expression that is contemporary and everlasting. With tradition and renewal combined in equal measure, Herit is a hybrid of time that transcends styles and periods. Whether it moves into a classic apartment, a modernist building or post-modern architecture, it inhabits the space with natural ease and subtle grace.
The polypropylene parts are molded with a core of foam. This innovative technique makes it possible to create thickness in the needed areas in order to obtain the best seating comfort and construct the sweeping lines of the design. The legs are made of solid wood. Herit comes assembled.
SOLID OAK
All wood follows the EUTR (EU Timber Regulation), which ensures the legal sourcing of the wood. The varnish used by Normann Copenhagen is water based.
POLYPROPYLENE
Keeping in line with our belief that longevity is at the core of sustainable design, Normann Copenhagen use polypropylene, a strong and highly durable material, for several designs in their furniture collection. They use a combination of recycled polypropylene, virgin polypropylene as well as a mix of the two. The material offers high resistance and durability, which ensures a long product lifetime. Furthermore, polypropylene is highly recyclable and consumes low energy during production.
CAMIRA FABRIC
Synergy – A soft handle wool blend fabric featuring exquisite fiber dyed shades and sumptuous piece dyed solids.
95% virgin wool, 5% polyamide
SØRENSEN LEATHER
Spectrum – A soft Semi-aniline leather with a subtle texture that looks uniform, thanks to a light surface finish that helps protect the leather from dirt, stains and fading resulting from exposure to light.
As a natural, full-grain leather, the visible pores on the smooth surface add a unique, authentic character to a matt leather with a subtle shine.
European rawhide, typically from Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Scandinavia. Thickness of 1.0 – 1.2mm with a water-based aniline dye.
Simon Legald graduated from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in the summer of 2012. His work consists of both small- and large-scale products. Simon’s designs are often created in a dialogue between craftsmanship and industry. He also likes to incorporate the techniques that are necessary for the structure of a product into the design by highlighting them visually.
“Honesty is what makes a product understandable and is what describes the product’s functionality. If you understand the product, it does not need any explanation. The essence of my design is for it to be bought and used. Therefore, it has to satisfy not only the functional aspects but also the psychological and aesthetic needs. For me, simplicity describes the true identity of objects and makes them trustworthy. In my design, I try not to add any unnecessary details. I work with simplicity by highlighting the necessities instead of hiding them. It gives the product a simple and honest expression.”
