The classic JWDA Table Lamp is being overhauled this season, as Menu is launching the lamp in a new version – a white marble and bronzed brass variety, which is 20% larger than the original, as both the bulb and marble-crafted stand is extended in size.
Originally inspired by more archaic oil lamps of the past, the JWDA’s form has been simplified into an organic shape that beautifully blends contrasting elements, whereby the raw and delicate harmoniously meet in one.
Casting a muted, soft glow can be easily adjusted by hand. Furthermore, this allows its users to select the kind of ambience to be created in a room – whether the lamp is employed on a side-table in the living room, office or as a quiet focal point in the hallway. Its simple silhouette and timeless quality will add a touch of sophistication to the interior, but its functionality and ease of use will ensure that JWDA will become an important part of people’s daily lives and do more than just look good.

JONAS WAGELL
Swedish architect and designer Jonas Wagell’s studio is based in downtown Stockholm but his collaborations stretch as far as China and North America. His work has come to be known for its playfulness and clever compact living. “I try to reduce unnecessary details and emphasize a function or main character, which often results in simple but expressive objects with soft shapes and sometimes over-sized, playful details. I have come to call this a type of ‘generous minimalism’.”
And in a culture with a tendency to consume and throw away, Jonas wants to create work that stays relevant for years to come. In 2008, he was named by Wallpaper* magazine as of the world’s 50 hottest young architects.
